General Background: Department of Geography located at the bank of holy river Ganga. Geomorphological and spiritually mighty river of (great) Ganga is the lifeline of Kalakankar. Astronomically the Kalakankar situated at 25°21’N Latitude and 81°36’E Longitude in the subtropical zone of U.P. India, never having overhead sun. Physically, Kalakankar is the part of Upper Ganga plain south. The Department Of Geography: The department of Geography was established in 1972 under graduate level and in 1978 postgraduate level under the incharge ship of Shiv Prakash Agnihotri. Under his great leadership the department offered Ph.D. course. After the selection of Bhanu Pratap (in 1978), Dhirendra Pratap Singh (in 1979) and Pradeep Kumar Singh (in 1991), The department of Geography is not only famous and glorified institution (M.M.P.G. College Kalakankar) but also of all the state universities in Uttar Pradesh. The department has paid the attention to different emerging and application oriented subject lectures like G.I.S., Remote Sensing, Climate change and Disaster management. The teacher and students (Research scholars and P.G. students) are actively involved research oriented studies and field work programmes. Presently the department is running with the one professor (Dr. Pradeep Kumar Singh) and to guest faculties. Equipment And Facility: The department of Geography has a number of well-equipped lab to assist the students research scholar teachers in teaching and research. (a) The map laboratory has a large collection of wall maps, topographic sheets on different scales and atlases are available in the geography department. (b) The photography, videography (D.S.L.R.), Computer (with scanner), L.C.D. Projector, Slide Projector and Overhead Projector are available in the department of geography. (c) The cartography equipment like tracing table U.N.O. Pen, Setsquares, Basler Box, Lettering Box T-square, Pantograph and Planimetres are available in the department of geography. (d) The aerial photographs, mirror stereoscope, Satellite image and numbers of general telescope astronomical scope are also available in the department of geography. (e) The Models of Earth (Globe), Surveying Instruments (chain tape, plain table, compass, Indian clinometer, Dumpy level sextant) and box of rocks (many types of rocks) are available for students and faculty member.
